The Virgin Islands

The third destination on my list of places I want to travel to is the Virgin Islands! Are you surprised? You may have noticed that my last two blog posts were about islands as well. That is because the places I love to travel to is somewhere by a beach. I love warm weather, and I am especially intrigued by the ocean. But the Virgin Islands intrigue me mostly because of my dad. When he was about college age, he lived in the Virgin Islands and once he had told me that, I was shocked. It’s crazy that he lived on an island all by himself at a young age just because he wanted to. I would love to do that! During his time there, he worked on boats, taught windsurfing lessons to kids, and did a lot of scuba diving adventures. My dad told me tales of how he encountered sharks while scuba diving and, right away, I was fascinated. So, in theory, I most likely have gotten my passion of the ocean from my father. Therefore, my goal is to visit the Virgin Islands.

Map of Virgin Islands

Just in case you didn’t know, the Virgin Islands are about fifty miles east of Puerto Rico. Surrounding the islands are the Caribbean waters. Interestingly enough, the United States does not own all the islands. A group of islands, which include Tortola, Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Jost Van Dyke are part of the British colony. US owns the islands St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas and many more. The Virgin Islands are peaks of underwater mountains that rise from a submarine plateau.

Of course, being a tropical island, its climate is spectacular. The humidity is low and the temperature rarely goes below 70 degrees fahrenheit or above 90 degrees fahrenheit. Also, the Virgin Islands have a problem with water scarcity so people there have water catchments.

There are tropical plants like flamboyant trees of mangoes, coconut palms, and breadfruit. Also, there’s lush blooms that include orchids, cacti, acacia, and sugarcane. Many animals that inhabit the islands are sailfish, marlin, kingfish, and wahoo.
