Do you know the movie Moana? Moana is my brother’s favorite movie! It is about a girl who lives in Hawaii and sails out into the ocean with a demigod named Maui. My brother may like the movie because of the thrilling adventures Moana and Maui go on, or because every place they go to is so pretty. This movie shows a lot about the physical features of the islands and the organisms that live there. In the movie, you can see that there are tall, green hills and bright, blue waters. Also, there’s an abundance of tropical plant life. The animals you see in Moana include a whale, a hammerhead shark, a dolphin, a sailfish, a sea turtle, a squid, an octopus, and various types of fish and birds.

Maui, an island of Hawaii, has 17 of the 20 known climate zones, so there are many varieties of plants that grow on the island. The Hawaii state flower is the Yellow Hibiscus. More flowers include the Lei, Plumeria, Bird of Paradise, Ginger, Heliconia, and Protea.

The animals of Maui include Mongooses, Axis Deer, Wild Boar, Hoary Bat, Monk Seal, Humpback Whale, dolphins, and turtles. Only two of these animals were native to Hawaii and that is the Hoary Bat and the Monk Seal.

Also, do you know where surfing was invented? You have guessed it! Hawaii! It has been said that the beach boys started the modern sport of stand up paddle boarding in Waikiki. From there, surfing became invented and is now widely used. Another fun fact, you can mail a coconut from Hawaii. Crazy right?? They literally just mail only the coconut without a box. The address is put right on the coconut and sent through the mail. Additionally, Hawaii is the only state in the United States that has two official languages. They speak English and Hawaiian. Even the greetings in Hawaii is different. They greet with a hug instead of a handshake. Honestly, from these facts, Hawaii sounds so amazing!

If Maui is anything like the movie Moana, I suggest you take a visit there. I’m sure my brother would love to go to Maui as well!
