Fort Lauderdale

Iguana           Nova Southeastern University        Women’s soccer team

In December, I am visiting a college in Fort Lauderdale because I am attending a soccer camp there. I have a few colleges that I am choosing from but I am excited to possibly go to this college. The university is called Nova Southeastern and the women’s soccer coach invited me to come to his camp for a day. I am super pumped to go because if possibly the coach wants me to play for his team, then I would love to go to this college. I had already visited Nova in the summer and I love the area! It is always warm outside and the buildings at the university are very modern. I like that style. Interestingly enough, there are a few iguanas running around the campus as well! I don’t mind it but it is definitely weird. Here are a few more crazy facts I learned about Fort Lauderdale.

Canal System

Fort Lauderdale is known as the “Venice of America” because it has a large, beautiful canal system. The city is also known as a major yachting center because it has one hundred marinas and 42,000 resident yachts. Besides that, there is twenty three miles of beach in Fort Lauderdale.

William Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is named after the series of forts built by the United States during the Second Seminole War. The forts took the name from Major William Lauderdale, a commander of soldiers that built the first fort. The city was not developed until fifty years after the forts were abandoned.

Fort Lauderdale

I am not much of a history buff but it was interesting to learn about the facts behind Fort Lauderdale. I know that I will remember this information for when I visit Fort Lauderdale next month. I suggest you visit the city as well! You may find this place to be as pretty as I find it.
